The Reverend Cord J. Franklin, Sr. began the pastorate of Mt. Olivet Missionary Baptist Church on October 21, 2012. Pastor Franklin is one of the first sons in ministry to Rev. Arthur McCarver, pastor of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Georgia. Rev. Franklin is a pastor with deep scholarly interests and a vast understanding of the gospel. Moreover, Rev. Franklin comes with rich experience in evangelistic ministry, having served for twelve years as Pastor of Greater New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Mableton, Georgia.
In 1996, Pastor Franklin received his Ministerial Ordination from Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Austell, Georgia, under the leadership of Pastor Wilbur T. Purvis. He was licensed to preach the gospel, in 1991, at Morning Star Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia, under the leadership of Pastor Reginald H. Wilborn.
Pastor Franklin’s devotion to God and respect for God’s word are apparent by the enthusiasm and liveliness in his teachings, based solely on and taken directly from the word of God, which are full of information and expounded upon with passion. His dedication and commitment to the teachings of Jesus Christ, along with his concern and advocacy for social justice and the community, provide a holistic outlook for ministry and the work of the church. This holistic approach sets the tone for a ministry that strengthens the saved, evangelizes the lost, embraces energetic worship, and lifts up the name of Jesus Christ.
“Humble Servant” best describes Rev. Franklin. His desire to minister to the body of Christ at large is what is missing in the church today. If there is a need, you will find Pastor Franklin‘s servant heart ready to respond. As a ministry family, the Franklin’s philosophy is to serve; not to be served. Pastor and Yolanda Shepard Franklin were married on June 18, 1983. Although God has bestowed many blessings upon their marriage, their three children; Cordenay Nicole, Cristal Dior and Min. Cord J. Franklin, Jr. are always considered their greatest earthly gifts from God. Pastor Franklin and his family bring the presence of the Lord wherever they go.
Pastor Franklin is affiliated with several national, civic and religious organizations. He enjoys writing, reading, teaching, fishing and watching sports, but most important to Rev. Franklin, is simply spending quiet evenings at home with his family.
With soul stirring sermons and great vision, Pastor Franklin has picked up the mantle and is dedicated to leading the Mt. Olivet Church Family to a deeper level of spiritual love, love for God, love for each other and love for the community. Under Pastor Franklin's leadership, the Mt. Olivet congregation is “pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Jesus Christ.” Philippians 3:14 KJV
